I've heard a lot of things about how new artists aren't as talented as old artists were, but which music do you believe was the best. IF you can which ERA of music was the best, but this poll is basically NEW vs. OLD. |

New. although musical aritsts of the past were more talented, most of the music today often targets the emotions, making them somewhat better than the older generation IMO. |

Wow, hard one. Great topic though! Well, I think every time had good and bad music. I specially don't like much the 80's coz I think that was when much bands and artists start believing that they should make hit songs to be in all tops, and forgot the importance of making good music (at least from what they thought good music was). Nowadays we do have a lot more resources to produce music than we had before, so I believe an artist can make a really good work with that. Still, now this is all a big stupid game where most of bands go to the buziness as products to make money. That's why I have to go with old music, it just seems to me much more natural and real. Now it's more about image and marketing. It sucks, but it obviously doesn't mean we don't have great bands and artists. For example, I think Indie music is now much better than it was a couple decades ago. And some singers out there are really making good stuff and trying to do something good and revolutionary. Again, all times will always have good and bad music. It just depends on the way you feel music. That's why I voted for old music.

I chose old music because it seems that anyone can make a hit record now and days without much talent. THey can use technology to make someone's voice sound more in tune with the music (for ex. Paris Hilton, William Hung, etc.) I mean all you have to have is a decent voice, some connections, and you got yourself a soundtrack. Also I'm a big fan of 80's music (my favorite ERA of music), I mean I like all types of music (new and old)from all types of ERA's, but I mean artists in the past had to actually use instruments to produce their music. THey were more talented as far as music is concerned. Music now and days seems to be very predictable. You have a decent singer who sings the song and then you got some rap in the middle with some repeating beats in the background. I like music where people actually sing and there is a good beat to it. So basically, I chose old music because the artists were more talented, you get a pure instrumental feel, 80's had some big, big, big hits that you can jam and dance to in your car. It just seems in the past there was more good music then there was bad, whereas now there seems to be more bad music then there is good. So my vote goes to old music. |

What kind of bands do you like from 80's, may I ask? Don't you think 80's music started being much more commercial and unnatural? I like some bands of 80's but I have always a problem with that. : \ |

80's music is what revolutionized the music industry. In the 80's you had big TALENTED/POPULAR stars/bands like Michael Jackson Madonna Baltimora Prince DURAN DURAN Metallica Bon Jovi Culture Club Paula Abdul George Michael Hueg Lewis Pat Benatar INXS E.R.A.S.U.R.E/Erasure Aerosmith Beastie Boys RUN DMC Grandmaster Flash Janet Jackson Foreigner Phil Collins Deff Leppard Lionel Richie Cyndi Lauper Debbie Gibson Salt N Peppa I mean there are a lot more I can name if you want me too, those are some I like, but I don't think it gets much better than that. Older music rocks! |

I do think older music rocks, but I like more 70's music coz it was when punk came out and it has those great old school songs. I think 80's music tended to be much more commercial and that's something pretty annoying to me. But yea, it revolutionized the music industry, and there are some really cool bands from 80's. Oh, hell yea, old music is great. I love some classics like The Clash, Ramones, The Sex Pistols, Pink Floyd, Doors, Crass, and stuff like that. I just love all them. |

I also like 70's music as well, but I extremely love 80's music. New music, I mean I like new music of course..but at the same time it just doesn't have the soul that old music has. WHat really disturbs me is when they remix a classic song. If I could I would just bring the 70's, 80's, and early 90's music back because those jams are irreplaceable. Old Music kicks New Music's butt. |

I agree. New music just doesn't have that soul we could find in older music. But I believe we could do muuuuuch better music if we weren't so concern about money and image. That's the biggest problem! Now it's all about cheesy addictive songs + hot beautiful artists + image + marketing = money. I mean, we have so much more resources now, and even best producers, we could really do much more for music... That's pretty sad. |

Well, I listen to metal, so I'll take classic of coruse. It's just so much better. Most nu-metal just plain sucks. Unless you listen to the underground stuff. |

classical music is great to snooze to. Not cuz it's boring, but its totally relaxing. U should try falling asleep to classical music. It's like a sleeping pill! When it comes to new and old music, it all depends for me. When it comes to rap, theres no question that old school was 100% better. New rap is so repetative and they are just saying the same stuff over and over and over and over again! I cant stand new school rap. Going back to the roots of rap, when i was growing up, i loved the Wutang Clan (1992-2001). They had the best flows and vibes. They definately paved the way for up and comming rap acts, but nobody seems to have taken the path they pathed yet! Drives me nuts When it comes to rock, I cant decide. Im more into alternative rock than anything, but like most other kinds aswell. Alternative is generally a "new" type of rock, so I'll stick with new. But Led Zepplin owns. My dad listens to it all the time, and lately i've only been listenin to old school rock songs whenever im listenin to rock. So i'll say 50/50 for Rock. But in general, Better songs were made back in the days.....Too bad we will never get to re-live the 20th century. |
